Question: Antichrisis were a band always sort of veiled in mystery as to the people behind the monicker. Your debut was a creation of one Moonshadow, while on the second record there are completely different people. Can you throw some light on your line-up development and also what's the line-up now?

Sid: Well, It may come to you as a surprise, but Moonshadow and me are just the same person! Moonshadow was my pseudonyme on "Cantara Anachoreta", but because of some drastic personal experiences I decided not to use this name any longer and picked up my "normal" name again. I also wanted to make clear that the audience shouldn't focus on the people behind Antichrisis, but on the music of Antichrisis itself, and with letting Moonshadow "die" (on a metaphorical level) I tried to make clear that I do not want any idolization or anything like that - All that counts is the music itself!

So "Cantara Anachoreta", Antichrisis' first album, was done almost on my own, with support of former guest-singer Willowcat. That cooperation wasn't very satisfying on the long run, so I was searching for a new female singer who I found in Lisa. She did a very good job on Antichrisis' second album "A Legacy of Love", but as she had been just a guest-vocalist as well, the search for a permanent member went on and found it's end when I met Dragonfly, who turned out to be the female vocalist on “Perfume”.

Näx, the "Prince of Pipes", joined Antichrisis shortly after the release of "Cantara Anachoreta", and we got on together very well from the beginning, musically as well as personally. He is a great and gifted musician who has become a vital part of Antichrisis since then and who likes to do weird interviews.

While Dragonfly left the band in 2003, being replaced by Katja Bartsch in 2005, the other guys appearing on "Perfume" (Jens "Gnu" Bachmann on guitars, Tilo "Waran" Rockstroh on Keyboards and Kugator on drums) mneanwhile have become permanent members of Antichrisis, too, and appeared on "A Legacy of Love Mark II" along with classical singer Frank W. Hennig.

Question: What do you think of politicians?

Sid: Let's have a look at good old Douglas Adams, for he has always a lot to offer concerning life, the universe and politics:

"One of the major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather who manages to get people to let them do it to them.

To summarize: It is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it. To summarize the summary: Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made president should on no account be allowed to do the job. To summarize the summary of the summary: People are a problem." There's not much to add to this...I deeply distrust every politician, because I do distrust everyone - no matter if left- of right-wing - who think that governing people is their vocation - in many cases they turn out to be just a bunch of power-hungry villains... as Bob Dylan once put it: "Don't follow leaders - watch the parking meters"; or even more radical with the words of Kevin Rowland of Dexy's Midnight Runners: "The only way to change things: Shoot people who arrange things!".

Dear Antichrisis-Devotees!

Life is a peculiar thing: somehow it always seems to turn out different than one thinks. Everything that appeared so consistent and inextinguishable yesterday will easily vanish like morning dew in tomorrow's sunlight. Stupidly pain has the vice of firing artistic creativity (at least as long as it doesn't exceed a certain level where it turns into plain agony - been there, done that, threw away the T-shirt...), so that Antichrisis' musical inspiration will be provided for much more than just the next few albums (beware of sarcasm here).

But apart from your mastermind's emotional life Antichrisis is developing magnificently: The reason for the delay of this website update was primarily due to the fact that I moved from A to B and that it took me a while to get everything sorted out and reconnect to the wondrous world of the wide web again. But now I'm back on the track working vigorously on the production of our forthcoming album "The Legacy remains".

In this regard there'll be a quite a few surprises and exciting news withing the next few weeks, but I'll hold that back until the next update for reasons of anticipation.

Das Leben ist schon eine merkwürdige Sache: Irgendwie scheint es immer anders zu kommen, als man denkt; was gestern noch dauerhaft und unzerstörbar erschien, ist morgen schon wieder entschwunden wie Nebelschwaden im Licht der Morgensonne. Dummerweise hat Schmerz die schlechte Angewohnheit, die künstlerische Kreativität zu beflügeln (zumindest so lange er den Grad nicht überschreitet, ab dem er nur noch lähmend wirkt - aber das kenn ich ja schon zu Genüge!), so dass mehr als genügend Inspiration für die nächsten Alben von Antichrisis gewährleistet ist (Achtung: Sarkasmus!).

Doch abgesehen vom Privatleben des Meisters gedeiht Antichrisis prächtig: Dass die Aktualisierung unserer Website so lange auf sich warten ließ, hatte in erster Linie damit zu tun, dass ich umgezogen bin und daher erst mal meine gesamten Habseligkeiten von A nach B schaffen musste, bevor ich wieder Kontakt mit der wundersamen Welt des Internets aufnehmen konnte. Mittlerweile sind jedoch alle diesbezüglichen Arbeiten erledigt, und ich kann mich wieder mit frischer Kraft und neuen Ideen um die Produktion unseres bevorstehenden Albums "The Legacy remains" kümmern.

Diesbezüglich wird es in nächster Zeit sowieso noch einige positive Überraschungen und interessante Neuigkeiten geben, doch die will ich mir für das nächste Website-Update aufheben.

Frage: Ich muss zugeben, dass ich zwar eure ersten beiden Alben besitze, mir bis vor einigen Monaten jedoch gar nicht bekannt war, dass 2001 mit „Perfume“ eine weitere Scheibe veröffentlicht wurde. Nun mag das zwar auch an mir selbst liegen, dass diese Veröffentlichung an mir vorüber ging, dennoch bin ich mal so vermessen, die „Schuld“ daran an anderer Stelle zu suchen – könnte es sein, dass in Sachen Promotion in der Vergangenheit möglicherweise auch einiges im Argen lag?

Sid: "Perfume" erschien zu einem Zeitpunkt, als es zu den bereits erwähnten Scherereien mit Napalm gekommen war, weshalb von Seiten des Labels auch kein Interesse mehr Bestand, dieses Album noch in irgendeiner Form effektiv zu promoten. Napalm warf uns ja sogar vor, dass Antichrisis auf dem Album wie Tic Tac Toe klingen würden, worauf ich entgegenete, dass ich überhaupt nichts dagegen einzuwenden hätte, wenn Napalm von "Perfume" ebenso viele Einheiten wie Tic Tac Toe verkaufen würde.

Ich glaube, wir sind eine der wenigen Bands in der Musikgeschichte, die sich von Seiten der eigenen Plattenfirma den Vorwurf anhören musste, das sie "zu kommerziell" sei...

Daher bist Du leider nicht der Einzige, an dem "Perfume" völlig spurlos vorüber ging - auch wenn ich dem Album im Nachhinein eher mit zwiespältigen Gefühlen gegenüberstehe: Es stellte zum damaligen Zeitpunkt ein Experiment dar, bei dem ich mal eine andere Arbeitsweise ausprobieren wollte - doch ein Experiment kann mitunter auch daneben gehen: Songs wie "Like the Stars", "Goodbye to Jane" oder "Hole in my Head" halte ich auch aus heutiger Sicht noch für äußerst gelungen, wohingegen einige andere Tracks nicht die Wirkung entfalten konnten, die sie hätten haben können, wenn ich ich sie anders strukturiert hätte. Ich wollte viel Raum für Improvisationen lassen und keine detaillierte Ausarbeitung wie noch auf "A Legacy of Love" vornehmen. Diese Methode hatte zwar ihren Reiz, führte letztendlich aber dazu, dass "Perfume" weitaus weniger geschlossen als "Cantara Anachoreta" oder "A Legacy of Love" klingt. Wie gesagt: Es sind einige sehr gute Songs darauf enthalten, aber als Album funktionierte es nicht.

Wie auch immer - ich habe aus diesem Experiment gelernt und festgestellt, dass meine Songs dann am stärksten sind, wenn ich sie über die Melodie entwickle und nicht über Drum-Grooves und Bass-Lines, wie ich es auf "Perfume" getan habe.

Frage: Könntest Du Dir vorstellen, "Cantara Anachoreta" und "Perfume" genau so zu überarbeiten und neu aufzunehmen wie "A Legacy of Love"? Es wäre doch sehr interessant, die Songs von "Cantara Anachoreta" mit Pipes zu hören.

Sid: Das wäre sicherlich eine interessante Angelegenheit - aber andererseits möchte ich lieber an neuen Songs arbeiten. Die Neuaufnahme von "A Legacy of Love" stellt in dieser Hinsicht eine Ausnahme dar, die einfach notwendig war, um die musikalische Brücke zu "The Legacy remains" zu schlagen, wohingegen ich zumindest zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt kein Album in Planung habe, das an den Sound von "Cantara Anachoreta" anknüpfen würde.

Ich denke nicht, dass man den "Cantara"-Songs - mit Ausnahme von "Goodbye to Jane", das wir aus genau diesem Grund für "Perfume" nochmals neu eingespielt hatten, durch eine _Überarbeitung einen großen Gefallen tun würde, denn der besondere Reiz von "Cantara Anachoreta" liegt nun mal gerade in seiner Räudigkeit und Imperfektion: es knarzt und kratzt an allen Ecken und Enden, und dieser Effekt steht den Songs meiner Ansicht nach ziemlich gut zu Gesicht.

“A Legacy of Love Mark II” has been released recently on Reartone Records.

All songs have seen a vast musical enhancement, they've been re-recorded and re-arranged from the ground. Both cover and booklet habe been re-designed to match the songs and their contents in a much better way. The new editing of the entire album allowed us to add the formerly unavailable “End of December” as bonus track.

Overall the album sounds much more consolidated now: The new interpretation of its songs has succeeded in taking the exhausted predecessor “A Legacy of Love” to a new level of musical and emotional experience.

In order to avoid the the price policy of the greedy music biz, we have chosen a different kind of distribution channel, hence for the time being “A Legacy of Love Mark II” will be available through www.playbaker.com only. This allows us to offer the album much cheaper than your average digipack edition.

Das Warten hat ein Ende!

“A Legacy of Love Mark II” wurde kürzlich als Digipack in völlig neuer gestalterischer und musikalischer Bearbeitung auf Reartone Records veröffentlicht.

Die Songs wurden musikalisch weiter entwickelt, neu arrangiert und eingespielt. Das Booklet wurde optisch den Songinhalten angepasst und somit ebenfalls komplett überarbeitet und neu gestaltet.

Durch die neue Interpretation und Verkürzung einzelner Stücke konnte das in der früheren Version entfallene “End of December" als Bonustrack in die Titelliste mit aufgenommen werden.

Insgesamt wirkt das Album durch die erfolgte Überarbeitung wesentlich kompakter und erlebt durch die musikalischen Neuinterpretationen eine gelungene Weiterentwicklung gegenüber der vergriffenen Original-Version “A Legacy of Love”.

Um die unfaire Preispolitik der Musikindustrie auszuhebeln haben wir uns für ein Vertriebsmodell entschieden, das es uns ermöglicht, “A Legacy of Love Mark II” trotz aufwendiger Gestaltung und des mit der Neueinspielung betriebenen Aufwands wesentlich günstiger als vergleichbare CD's anbieten zu können. Aus diesem Grund wird das Album zunächst ausschliesslich über www.playbaker.de zu beziehen sein.
